Open Day - awesome turnout, thank you for your patience!
Wow! You guys were incredible! Open Day at our new venue on Sunday 17 July was full-on fantastic, we had a fabulous time with familiar faces and new circus stars of all ages rising to whatever challenges came your way.
A big thank you to everyone who waited patiently on one of Scotland’s unusually hot days for their turn to try the thrills and joys of the circus training experience. You can enjoy a one-minute video on Insta and Facebook capturing some of the fun.
We’d have had a lot more video and photos to share with you if our resident film-maker Gabe Stella wasn’t also our flying trapeze instructor, and teaching tricks to the non-stop flow of flyers instead of getting behind the lens!
So, if you have footage or photos of yourself or your friends and family, please feel free to share them and tag us on Instagram and Facebook so that we can all enjoy your experiences too.
Open Day gave you the chance to try FREE aerial arts – so you hung upside down off trapezes, ropes, silks, hoops and did great knee hangs on flying trapeze. On the acrobatics front, you learned balances along with flips and tricks on and off the trampoline.
Glasgow’s Circus School has always been dedicated to developing people through circus, so instructors are experts at encouraging confidence and other life skills along with circus abilities. As you get better on the apparatus, you feel better too. It’s all done through having fun, and anyone can do it, regardless of age, experience, body type or other factors.
We teach anyone from three years old – there’s no upper age limit. People have started their circus lives at Aerial Edge in their pension years. So Open Day is the ideal time to bring the family and try taster sessions in a range of circus arts to discover what everyone loves the most.
And you WILL love it, we’ve seen it happen over and over again – a complete beginner arrives feeling a little unsure and leaves feeling thrilled. You may be surprised and delighted with what you can achieve in just one lesson At Aerial Edge. Progress can be quicker than you’d think.
If you’re already fit and strong, the imaginative instructors will make sure you find all sorts of new ways to challenge your body using the circus equipment. If you’ve never enjoyed the gym or fitness classes, this could be the approach that’s been missing from your life. It all begins at whatever stage YOU are at, depending on what YOU want. Because circus is about creativity, anything is possible.
This has been a challenging couple of years for Aerial Edge. Having closed in November 2020 because of covid, we then became homeless with the announcement in April 2021 that Kelvin Hall was being redeveloped for the creative arts as a film studio. There aren’t many venues in the city with easy access to public transport that have the ceiling height we need to rig the aerial equipment, and many were in use as covid vaccination centres. We got off to a couple of false starts, investing much-needed funds in buildings that subsequently turned out to be less than ideal. Every investigation involved careful and costly scrutiny and submission of paperwork with landlords and council departments.
We think you’ll be as delighted as we are with the new warehouse set-up. It’s definitely our best home yet.
As a social enterprise (a CIC, Community Interest Company), Aerial Edge is determined to make circus accessible to all so we are incredibly happy to finally be able to welcome you to Unit 12, Edmiston Trade Park, 240 Edmiston Drive, G51 2YU. It’s just off Paisley Road West, between Cessnock and Ibrox. This quick video makes it easy to see how to find us.
So, book a class, give it a whirl. If you have any questions, you can send a WhatsApp message to 07360 546 232, email info@aerialedge.co.uk or see www.aerialedge.co.uk
