Aerial hoop in Glasgow – three instructors, three ways in
Aerial hoop in Glasgow – three instructors, three ways in
One circular apparatus. Three instructors who each make it their own. All you have to do is choose.
Aerial hoop is a single ring, hung from the rig, that you climb into, hang from, spin inside and pose on. It rewards stillness and momentum in equal measure – still enough to hold a shape motionless in the air, dynamic enough to spin through a sequence at surprising speed.
It isn’t one-size-fits-all, which is the advantage of Aerial Edge running three separate hoop classes rather than one.
Clara, Kerri and Freya each teach hoop differently, because each of them found something different in it themselves. One builds from the ground up. One helps you find your own style once the basics are there. One pushes towards technical, professional-level work. Read how each of them describes their own class on the blog, then come and find out which one is yours.
Aerial Edge is a not-for-profit circus school in Glasgow, training students from age one to people in their seventies. Whatever your starting point, there’s a place for you in the air.

Aerial Hoop – Open Level, Tuesdays 7pm
With Kerri. This class is billed as Open Level, and gives you room to grow, nurturing the skills you may already have, finding your favourite shapes and transitions, and discovering your own style in the air. The only prerequisites are some experience with hoop or a similar apparatus like trapeze, and being comfortable getting up to and working on the top bar. Every week brings a fresh combo of dynamics, spins and flow, with progressions and regressions built in so the class meets your pace, then a chance to freestyle.
90-minute class. £25 drop-in, or £17 on an 8-class pass.

Aerial Hoop – Open Level, Thursdays 7pm
With Freya. An Open Level class that runs from beginners through to students working towards professional development, usually split into two groups so beginners and improvers, and intermediate and advanced students, each get objectives and choreography suited to where they’re at. Each week moves through a ground-based warm-up, aerial conditioning, dynamic technique — beats, hand switches, drops, spin variations — and a choreographic sequence that builds new elements in.
90-minute class. £25 drop-in, or £17 on an 8-class pass.
