Adam O'Connor-McMahon

Adam O'Connor-McMahon

Having grown up with a background in theatre, Adam started his circus career performing in a street-theatre duo.

Graduating the National Institute of Circus Arts in 2015, Adam has performed in numerous shows for Strut & Fret, as well has debuting his solo show Drought, directed by Cirque Du Soleil’s Hayden Spencer in 2017.

Adam is currently a member of Head First Acrobats and was performing in their hit show Railed, until lockdown.

Tamzen Moulding

Tamzen is a professional circus performer and dancer, she started her career as a gymnast competing at an International level, followed by a BA Hons degree at London Contemporary Dance School before moving into circus.

Tamzen is an amazing handbalance teacher and performer and a great all round acrobat whom we brought up to Aerial Edge many times over the years in Handbalance, acrobatics, cradle and bungee dance harness.

Circus Fitness – Monday 6pm – Includes a cardio warm up, legs and hip stability, abs and shoulders with a focus on handstands. You will need: foam roller or yoga blocks or pile of book, stretchy band or pair of stretchy tights, a nice thick scarf.

Flexibility – Monday 7:15pm – Short cardio warm up followed by a variety of stretching exercises both static and active. You will need: stretchy band or stretchy tights, a lacrosse ball or similar.

Beginners Handstand Workshop Series – Saturdays 8th August -> 12th September 1-2pm No experience required – build confidence and take the first steps towards achieving a handstand. BOOK HERE

One-Arm Handstand Workshop Series – Saturdays 8th August-> 12th Septemeber 2.15-3.15pm Start working your way to the holy grail of handstands. BOOK HERE

Adilso Machado

Adilso Machado

Adilso is an Artistic Director and dancer who lives and works between his home nation Brazil and his adopted one, Scotland. His work is characterised by physical rigour.

After gaining his Physical Education degree, Adilso notched up 22 years in the international artistic field. As well as working in circus as a dancer and choreographer, he’s created his own dance solos, and developed pieces with visionary directors including Alejandro Ahmed of Grupo Cena in Brazil, Toula Limnaios from Berlin and Hooman Sharifi from Impure Company in Norway.

Rebecca Rennison

Rebecca Rennison

We are delighted to have Rebecca back with us. She is a highly skilled aerial artist, coming from a professional dance background, with over 10 years experience coaching all ages in the air and on the floor.

Rebecca has performed all over the world, in commercials, TV and arena shows. She combines acrobatic skill in the air with her natural movement fluidity.

From day one of the lockdown Rebecca has been translating what she does into an online format to support aerialists while they are away from their equipment and training spaces.

Eve Mutso

Eve Mutso

Eve Mutso is a freelance dancer & choreographer and former Principal Dancer of Scottish Ballet, Scotland’s national dance company.

In 2015 she was nominated by the Critic’s Circle for the National Dance Award for Outstanding Female Performance (Classical). She had previously been nominated for Best Female Dancer in 2005 and 2013.

Eve’s interest in aerial arts resulted in the creation of aerial solo loop, commissioned by The Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh in 2018 and led to her becoming a core part of Aerial Edge’s foundation course in which she has been teaching since it began.

Thursday 6pm Ballet fitness will have a focus on building a ballet body for aerialists and developing the body and lines needed for performance work.

The Thursday 7:15pm Flexibility Will be a blend of hatha yoga and ballet flexibility training.

Youth Classes (7-18)

Online Youth Circus Block 4th Aug to 25th Aug (4 weeks)

This 4 week block of classes will be taken by Adilso who will carry on teaching his speciality ground-based performance techniques around physical dance and acro moves, with a different emphasis in each class – and this time we’re moving towards a short performance at the end of the block.

Suitable for ages 7-18

Beginners Handstand Course with Tamzen Moulding

Beginners handstand course – no experience required

If you’re afraid of handstands, this course is for you.

We’ll start from the very beginning with the basics of handstands and you’ll build strength and flexibility working towards handstands against the wall and kicking up free from the wall over 6 weeks with zoom classes and extra videos.

 

Objectives:

  • Improve confidence going upside down.
  • To build strength.
  • Find a good position to start to balance.

Day: Saturdays 8th August-12th September (6-weeks)

Time: 1pm-2pm

One Arm Handstands with Tamzen Moulding

This is an introduction to one arm handstands

Prerequisites: suitable if you have a good 30 second two arm handstand in straight, tuck and straddle positions or are just beginning your one arm training.

We will work on drills and exercises to build strength and alignment for one arms handstands using the wall and free-standing.

During the class, I will give variations to suit peoples ability and feedback on alignment and technique to improve your balance.

Objectives:

  • To give you a route to one arms, learning the technique to progress into holding one arm handstands
  • Information to continue working on them outside of class.
  • Improve transfers onto fingertips with good technique against a wall and progress to free standing.
