Braw is a festival showcasing Scottish-made contemporary circus. It’s first outing as a live event straddled the long-established Aerial Edge Circus Convention, ensuring a large international audience of participants and professionals. With new works by key artists supported and highlighted, Braw set its intent to bring new work by circus artists in Scotland to a large audience.
Braw Screen was the brainchild of Aerial Edge associate artist, Adilso Machado, who at the beginning of the pandemic suggested this as a way for artists to continue creating work. It was so right – who wouldn’t?! The AE team built that idea into a project that would see Creative Scotland fund Braw Screen 2021 and a new place to share online the wonderful work of Scottish and Scotland-based circus artists – brawcircus.co.uk, as well as highlighting international inspirations, non-professional submissions from our glorious community, and historical references.
Braw Screen 2021 has commissioned five teams of circus and video graphics artists to produce new works. We are so excited to share these with you here, on the new hub, and universally via social media. Before the launch on 24th June, you’ll see some of the making processes, tiny teasers of the finished works, Q&A with the creators, bloopers, and much more good stuff. Your main channels are the AE socials and you can sign up for our newsletters here.
We thank our erstwhile producing partners of Braw Circus and can’t wait to present another live Braw Festival with you soon.
